Some call these peas "Texas" "cow" "southern" or "Mississippi" purple hull peas. They're an Heirloom variety and have been grown in our family for the past 5-6 years. These are bush type not vine type peas. We've harvested pounds and pounds of these fantastic critters and they taste great!!
PurpleHull Peas are close cousins to the more familiar, but less tasty, black-eyed peas. They are members of the "cow pea" or "southern pea" family, just as are black-eyed peas and crowder peas. Botanists believe the cow pea originated in Africa, specifically in an area which is now the country of Niger.
The Seeds I list are all grown, and hand selected by my family in Tennessee. My garden is not certified organic (as most are not due to cost), but I do not use pesticides or chemicals in my container or earth gardening. We use the finest worm castings and tea from our compost!
Germination tested for viability at 88!
