Description
Vanilla planifolia is a tropical orchid, and is responsible for creating Vanilla beans, which are the cured seed pods from its flowers. It grows well for me outside year-round, and has been exposed to temps in the low 40’s without any issues or die back. I grow all of my Vanilla in pots, planted in a mix of standard peat/coir based potting mix and orchid potting mix. It needs a trellis or pole support to grow best - I have plants trailing horizontally across clothesline wire, and vining up the base of a Loquat treeVanilla would do well in a closed terrarium/vivarium, but may require trimming since it can grow quite large. Vanilla grows well as a houseplant if given enough humidity and proper potting mix, and a support to grow on. It doesn’t require high light, and prefers about 50% sunlight throughout the day.
This listing is for two, two node, unrooted cuttings of Vanilla planifolia, taken fresh at the time of purchase. These cuttings will vary in size, but will all be around 6-8 inches long. The bottoms of the cuttings will be marked with black marker - this will not harm the plant, and will help you know which end to plant in the soil.
There are many ways to root Vanilla cuttings, and some may work better for you than they do for me, so I can’t give fail-proof advice on how to root them. My method is to bury the lower node under the top inch of soil, in a pot filled with a mix of 50/50 standard peat/coir based potting mix and orchid bark. I then tie the cutting to a bamboo garden stake, and place it in my greenhouse. It’s important that the soil not remain constantly moist while the Vanilla is rooting, otherwise the plant may rot. Misting the soil or watering it lightly will suffice. You’ll know the cutting has rooted once new growth appears.

I do my best to make sure that you know exactly what you'll be receiving when you purchase from me. I won't ever describe plants or cuttings in general terms like "bunch" or "portion" - I'll give measurements of the plants in relevant terms, and a count of how many you'll get in each auction. Every plant that I send out gets cleaned and inspected, too.
My house plants and landscape plants are grown indoors and outdoors, depending on whatever works best for me and the plant. Since I deal with a lot of plants, and they change location often, I cannot guarantee that any plant will be pest free. I will not, however, send out a plant that clearly has pests, or doesn't look healthy. I also check all of my plants for pests and disease before packing them.
Shipping:
I ship Mondays and Tuesdays using USPS First Class or Priority Mail, depending on the size and weight of the plants - each auction will state whether it's First Class or Priority. I will only ship to the address that appears in your eBay profile. Please, check your profile and make sure the address is correct, as I cannot change it once you've placed the order. I do not offer heat packs at this time; if temperatures in your area are consistently at or below freezing, it would be best to hold off ordering until warmer weather.
Returns/Refunds:
I do not accept returns
. In the event that your plants are dead upon delivery, take pictures of the plants in their packaging
on the day of delivery
, and contact me to discuss a refund or replacement.
My Growing Conditions:
I grow plants indoors under LED lighting, outdoors in a shade house, and in my yard under various conditions. My indoor plants get an average of 14 hours of lighting each day, and the plants grown outside get a wide variety of light intensity. Most of my indoor plants are watered using RO/DI filtered water, and the outside plants get a combination of city and well water.
